The guys over at Uncrate.com really know how to pick their cars:

Normally we consider it a bonus when we hear a car has simply been tested at the Nürburgring. But built there? The Veritas RS III ($TBA) is a throw back to Germany's first Formula I car, complete with an open-air single-person cockpit, vicious, car-eating looks, a BMW V10 pumping out 507 hp, a top speed of around 215 mph, Recaro seat(s), Brabham Racing perforated ceramic disc brakes, and the feeling that only comes from driving a car built by hand. Just get your wallet prepared, because truth on wheels surely isn't cheap.

That thing looks deadly.

Caught this one on ESPN:

Shaquille O'Neal is looking to continue a sideline career in law enforcement now that he's in Ohio playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Spokesman John O'Brien of the Cuyahoga County sheriff's office says the Cavs center has applied to become a special deputy. He would have the right to carry a gun and make arrests but not be a paid, formal employee.

What an intimidating cop this guy will make...

Straight from the wizards at Uncrate:

Prepare for Windows 7 with the Dell Multi-Touch Monitor ($470). This 21.5-inch Full HD panel is fully compatible with the multi-touch features of Win 7, and also features a two megapixel integrated webcam, USB, HDMI, audio, VGA, and DVI inputs, audio output, and a stylish integrated stand. Just remember to lower your arms every once in a while, lest you get sore arms from simply browsing your adult media collection.

Flippin' sweet.

One sick looking bar:

There's something extra cool about furniture born of reused parts from airplanes, and the MotoArt 747 Cowling Bar ($TBA) is a prime example. Made from an authentic cowling that once covered the Pratt & Whitney jet engine of a Boeing 747, this unique bar features a half-inch tempered glass counter, mirror-polished aluminum braces, a hardwood bar counter, bottom shelves for storage, and more. It's a perfect match for Ejection Chair barstools, and while pricing varies, expect it to be more than a R/C 747, but less than the real thing.

Awesome way to reuse these parts and bring something home for any flying / airplane enthusiast. No info on whether the blonde is included -- but I'd suspect not.

Black Saturday 2009

AES and I are headed to North Carolina this evening to attend an Appalachian State football game tomorrow. Not just any App game... Black Saturday.

credit Marie, Blue Ridge Blog

APP hasn't quite been the team we've witnessed in past years, but they're still known to drop the lumber on the team or two, and we're hoping to do just that against Georgia Southern this weekend. Armanti Edwards is... well, I don't need to tell you what he's done - you're all aware. He's scary, week in and week out. Can't wait to get back to Boone and cheer the Mountaineers to another victory at The Rock. Send some good luck our way on Saturday and wear your black and gold.

Go Mountaineers!

This looks pretty sweet:

This hard shell transparent canoe provides 100% visability. It weighs only 40 lbs., and is lighter than most aluminum or wood canoes.

I've only been in a canoe twice. One was at Dillon State Park and the other was Loudonville, OH. Neither of which you would be able to see what was underneath your canoe anyway... But if you were fortunate enough to canoe in a beautiful stretch of water, this would be the way to go.

Lots of people think the BCS is broken, and that college football needs to be reformed. This is fairly new thinking:

Playoff PAC is a federal political committee dedicated to establishing a competitive post-season championship for college football. The Bowl Championship Series is inherently flawed. It crowns champions arbitrarily and stifles inter-conference competition. Fans, players, schools, and corporate sponsors will be better served when the BCS is replaced with an accessible playoff system that recognizes and rewards on-the-field accomplishment. To that end, Playoff PAC helps elect pro-reform political candidates, mobilizes public support, and provides a centralized source of pro-reform news, thought, and scholarship.

Lots of information on their site, including 'What's wrong witht the BCS?'. If you're a fan of college football, it's interesting to have a look around this site to see how they're going about initiating change, what they want to change, and how passionately the believe.

Another beautiful car from Uncrate.com:

Celebrating the October, 1969 launch of the Datsun 240Z, the new Nissan 370Z 40th Anniversary Edition ($TBA; Spring 2010) thankfully moves beyond the quaint 150hp 2.4-liter engine of the original for Nissan's latest and greatest tech. Features include a 332 hp V6 — sadly, not enhanced with turbo for this edition — 19-inch, "smoke" Rays wheels, a special 40th Quartz paint job, red brake calipers, red leather interior, red stitching, and the requisite 40th anniversary badges and commemorative plaque.

Pretty solid additions to an already attractive vehicle. I like it.

We still have quite a while before the 2010 Winter Olympics begin in Vancouver, but the flame was lit yesterday in Greece:

The flame for the Vancouver Olympics was successfully lit by the sun's rays in an ancient ceremony Thursday, heralding the start of the torch relay for the 2010 Winter Games.

The sun shone just enough over the fallen temples at the birthplace of the ancient Olympics for a Greek actress in a pagan priestess' white gown and sandals to focus its rays on a silver torch using a concave mirror.

The flame will burn at the Feb. 12-28 Vancouver Games, following a torch relay across Canada and a shorter run in Greece.

I had no idea that they actually lit the torch using the sun - pretty cool. The article goes on to say that Canada will have an unusually long torch relay with nearly 12,000 torchbearers. Mark your calendars for the Games = Feb 12 - 28.

Not sure if this is old news or not, but thought I'd try it anyway. Did you guys see that All Saints Day is only being released in certain theaters? I'm not really sure why, and I'm kind of upset about this.

Another toy from Uncrate.com:

Whether you're a lawn care professional or just a guy with a big yard, you can get it cut quickly and greenly with the Cub Cadet Z Force S ($5,500-$6,500; 2010). As the first zero-turn riding mower with a steering wheel instead of lap bars, the Z Force S' wheel controls both the front wheels and the independently controlled back wheels for greater maneuverability, and boasts features like 48- or 60-inch triple-blade fabricated heavy duty decks, a dual hydrostatic transmission, and an optional liquid propane version that can cut your fuel costs by up to 30 percent while reducing emissions. Probably overkill if you don't have at least an acre and a half.

Look at that beast - makes me wish I had a yard to mow (and $6500 to burn) Plenty of power and features and some green ideas too with the liquid propane version. Smart.

Thought that this was a strong move:

Maryland and South Carolina will wear uniforms with camouflage designs during their games Nov. 14 to honor military veterans and promote the Wounded Warrior Project.

The black with tan camouflage uniforms, designed by Under Armour, will have a Wounded Warrior logo on them. Instead of players' names, the backs of the jerseys will have words such as courage, loyalty, integrity and service.

The Wounded Warrior Project acts as an advocate for injured service men and women in Washington and provides services and programs for them.

Some jerseys will be auctioned off after the games on the university Web sites, with all of the money being donated to the Wounded Warrior Project.

This is a great cause, worthy of all our attention and the national stage.

This one comes from Uncrate.com:

With a crazy futuristic design and a host of features, the iREV ($24,000; January 2010) is your new party barge. This Interactive Recreational Entertainment Vessel seats up to 10 people inside its circular decks, and features a central low smoke charcoal grill that can be swapped for a number of other centerpieces, an outboard electric 2-5 hp motor with 8-10 hours of battery life, 4 storage bins, an integrated umbrella, and an optional audio package with marine approved hi-fidelity 500 watt speakers, amplifier, satellite radio and a MP3 connection. Lest you feel selfish for dropping 24 large on a floating bar, you can rest easy knowing it's made in America from 45% reclaimed material, and is 80% recyclable.

Amazing. If I lived close to a lake, I'd be all over this one. This thing screams fun to me.

With one of the more novel camera designs we've seen in a while, the Samsung DualView Camera ($265) solves that age-old question of how to take a good self portrait. The solution? A 1.5-inch front-mounted LCD screen, which can also display silly animations to amuse a child subject, or a countdown for the self timer. Also in front is a 27mm wide angle, 4.6x optical zoom Schneider lens, while the back is dedicated to the haptic feedback-enhanced 3-inch touchscreen, which is great for replaying those 720p movies you recorded. It's not going to win any professional photography awards, but its blend of smart features and pocketable size makes it a fine point-and-shoot.

This seems like a really simple, yet fantastic way to solve this problem. Very cool - two thumbs up.

Tear up the road on the new 2010 Honda VFR 1200F ($TBA; Spring 2010). Expected to get an official intro at the Tokyo Motor Show, the 1200F boasts a 1,237cc liquid-cooled V4 engine good for 172 hp, impressively-sculpted body panels sitting atop a vacuum-molded cast aluminum chassis, Throttle By Wire for increased throttle response, an optional Dual Clutch Automatic Transmission with paddle-style shifters, and a next-generation shaft drive system.

If the performance is anything like the description of the performance, this thing would be a beast/dream to ride. Go Honda.

As we've mentioned several time on TT before, we like the band, Needmore. Well, lucky us - Needmore released 'Needmore' on Sept 29th.

Needmore

Available on Amazon and iTunes, this one is easy to get your hands on --- and certainly worth a listen. Hat tip to TJ, he is afterall, the bee pimp.

Give this one a try, you'll be glad you did.

Ok - I'm a sucker for these cars (straight from Jalopnik.com) ... bear with me:

JB Design has "upgraded" the Lamborghini LP640 with a mess of carbon fiber, a body kit, custom "Blood to Black Diamond" paint job, dark red ultrasuede interior and oh yes, a power upgrade to either 710 or 750 HP.

Frankly, we're already impressed with the base model Lamborghini LP640, so any tuner's got an uphill battle in our book to make it look better.

This Lambo is nearly as beautiful as this one.

I'm not sure what I can add to this...

It speaks volumes already:

Like bacon with your pancakes? How about bacon in your pancakes? Mo's Bacon Chocolate Chip Pancake Mix ($14) offers exactly that, mixing tasty buttermilk pancake mix with Vosges Chocolates' delectable Mo Bacon Bar chips. Finally, a good reason to wake up early.

In the immortal words of "The Continental" (Christopher Walken):

"Wow! Wowie-wow-wow-wow!"

This is awesome:

I’ve been testing a new LED bulb called the HydraLux. These unique bulbs are filled with a clear liquid coolant (a non-toxic paraffin oil). Other LED bulbs use large metal fins or fans for cooling purposes. The advantage of using a liquid coolant is that the LED bulb can produce 360° light like a regular incandescent bulb. The HydraLux also has a slim line, so it can fit in desk lamps and other light sockets with limited space. It uses only one 4W Cree LED to produce the equivalent of a 25 Watt incandescent bulb. In my desk lamp, this bulb produced a slightly bluish white light, similar to a 25 Watt bulb, as the manufacturer claims. I’d use this bulb for a task light, but the light was too blue to use in my bedside lamp. The LED bulbs that produce a truly warm light are the EarthLED and the EnLux.

Liquid filled LED bulbs --- pretty cool. I'd really like to give one of these a try.

The now inescapable bar code celebrates its 57th anniversary Wednesday—a milestone unmissed by Google, which replaced its home page logo with a bar code "doodle" that translates to "Google." Now used to track just about anything bought and sold in many countries, the standard bar code system was patented in the United States on October 7, 1952, but took about 20 years to go mainstream. The bar code finally made its big time debut in 1974 at an Ohio supermarket, when a pack of chewing gum became the first item to be given the now familiar swipe.

A pack of chewing gum, huh? That's some odd facts that might win you a game of trivia some day. Well, Happy Anniversary, bar code!

The all-electric Tesla Roadster is a green car without the dinky green look (Sorry Toyota Prius).

Some audiophiles at Al & Ed's Autosound in West Hollywood, California, decided the Tesla needed a non-dinky radio system, too.

So they've have revamped the $100,000 Roadster, refurbishing the interior and installing a new sound system.

Hop over to TreeHugger and check out the audio improvements.

Wondering what's happening with the Toledo Rockets ? Then look no further than our sister site, LetsGoRockets.com.

We've mentioned LGR in the past, but it's been a while so we wanted to make sure that everyone knows where to go for their fix of Rocket gospel.

Looking for stats ? They're on LGR.

Looking for schedules and scores ? They're on LGR.

Looking for opponent insight and Q&As with opponent blogs, including the Miami Herald? They're on LGR.

Looking for dedication and passion about a resurgent Toledo football program ? That's on LGR too.

Looking for great prices on laptops ? I'd hit up TigerDirect.com for that, but when you're done over there, I'd hop over to LGR to read this week's Coop Scoop so you know exactly what the Rockets are up against this weekend and the key to their success week in and week out.

If you're looking for any info on the Toledo Rockets football program, do yourself a favor and point your browser to LetsGoRockets.com. You'll be glad you did.

Any Notre Dame fan will appreciate this:

Notre Dame will unveil a bronze sculpture of coaching great Knute Rockne on Friday.

The sculpture of the most successful coach in Fighting Irish history depicts Rockne in his coaching sweatshirt and baseball pants with his hands on his hips. Rockne had a coaching record of 105-12-5, an .881 winning percentage that remains the best in college football history.

Thought that was pretty cool. The other statues on campus are really neat and with this one coming from the same artist, I'd expect it to be just as impressive.
